Susan Alexander-Max and The Music CollectionA finalist in the International Bach Competition, New York City native Susan Alexander-Max is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music. On completing her studies there, she won a scholarship to study with Ilona Kabos in London, where she now resides. Since then she has performed in festivals, music clubs, museums and galleries, and educational institutions throughout the world.

Highlights of Susan’s performances include some of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals. She is a frequent guest artist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, and she can be heard regularly in the major London venues.

As recording artist, Susan has made two CDs of Chamber Music by Hummel. The second of that group won the BBC recommendation of the month. To date, she has also made two recordings of Early Piano Sonatas by Clementi and the complete keyboard works Book II of Domenico Zipoli. All were awarded top ratings and outstanding reviews internationally. Forthcoming CDs include the Fortepiano Concerti of J.C. Bach, the third CD in the Clementi series, Hummel solo Sonatas and the complete Sonatas of J.C. Bach.

Susan has been presented on British, American and European radio and television, including BBC Radio 3, England. In 1996, she founded the world renowned chamber ensemble, The Music Collection the chamber ensemble that specialises in the music of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, performing on historic  instruments. With her ensemble, she not only performs and records, but she has developed an educational programme to help promote Classical music in the secondary school system throughout the UK. The programme has been very successful and will soon expand to primary education as well.

For many years, Susan was professor of piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Since leaving this post, she has dedicated her teaching time to giving lecture-recitals, workshops and masterclasses on the fortepiano and clavichord, worldwide. She has taught at Sheffield University, Queens University, Belfast, University of South Dakota, USA, to name just a few. She has been invited to give masterclasses at the Juilliard School of Music, New York City, the Chinese University, Hong Kong, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse, Paris.
