Eleanor read Music at Oxford and subsequently studied Baroque flute with Lisa Besnosiuk at the Royal College of Music. She spent the early 1990s living in Belfast, where she became interested in the potential of wooden flutes as a sound-source for electroacoustic music. She has collaborated with composers such as Simon Emmerson, Simon Waters and Fergus Johnston, who wrote for her, often in collaboration with harpsichordist Jane Chapman, a great champion of contemporary music for early instruments.
Eleanor has performed early and contemporary chamber music throughout Ireland and the UK. Her main loves in the early music repertoire are French Baroque music and the music of Bach, though she also spent many years working with the Medieval and Renaissance group, Seanma, exploring arranging and recording a large body of Troubadour song and other Medieval repertoire.
Eleanor now combines her fascination with sound and resonance into her work with yoga, and regularly gives workshops exploring sound and movement. She has always been active in education, through children’s workshops and projects, as well as private flute teaching.
Eleanor’s connection with Baroque music in Sligo goes back over twenty years, and she was one the pioneers behind the creation of the Baroque Music Festival.
