La Ritirata

Founded by Josetxu Obregón while he was based in Holland, La Ritrata takes its name for the last movement of the famous Luigi Boccherini composed in Madrid, entitled “Las Musica Notturna delle starde di Madrid”.

The group performs regularly at prestigious concert venues and festivals such as the Early Music Festival of Barcelona, National Theatre of Beijing, Musika-Musica (la Folle Journee) in the Palacio Euskalduna (Bilbao), The CNART Early Music Festival (Mexico City), Auditorium of Zaragoza, the closing ceremony of the Spanish EU presidency (Tokyo), the National Center of Baroque Music (CMBV Versailles), Museo de Bellas Arts in Santiago (Chile), Centro Studi Boccherini (Lucca), Baroque Music Festival of Costa Rica, Juan March Foundation (Madrid), Real Alcazar (Sevilla), to name but a few.

The group was recently awarded at the prestigious Sitges competition and was the only Spanish group to be selected for the the first Grand Audition of REMA (European Early Music Netword). La Ritrata has recorded for the labels of Verso, Arsis and Columna Musica, receiving excellent reviews.

In the hands of its artistic director Josetxu Obregón, the group specialises in Early Music with the goal of showing the most demanding of audiences how the combination of high quality performances, together wit the understanding of the context and aesthetic in which the music as composed, is the key to the future of music in our society.
