Workshop on Italian, Spanish Baroque harps and French & English Classical harp techniques and repertoire, both solo and basso continuo. The approach used will be looking at sources, but applying the facts to make meaning of the music, placing music in a cultural, political context.

Baroque and Classical Violin workshop/masterclass: Looking at the violin repertoire from the 17th century up to Mozart, Italy, France and Germany. As internationally renowned improviser, Davide’s approach to music is strongly influenced by taking the score as a sketch and elaborating this , taking into account the arts of the time: art of memory, of rhetoric and the emotions.
Participants do not need to bring prepared piece.

Orchestral String Playing with Davide Monti – Style and interpretation

The Venetian Style: Davide Monti, leader of Il Tempio Armonico and experience of performing with some of the best baroque orchestras in Europe, will work on two pieces of Italian music with participants – culminating in a play-through”performance” of them.
The Works are:
F.E. Dall’Abaco, Concerto op. VI n° IV in si minore and A. Vivaldi, Concerto per Archi in Do magg.
This is open to string and continuo players (violin, viola, cello, bass +) and can accommodate a fairly wide ability range.
€15 – covers both sessions

Barbara Segal will talk about the world of 17th and 18th Century dance, will demonstrate, and will encourage particpation.
No previous knowledge assumed.
12 noon Sat Harp-making workshop with Davy Patton
4.30 (NB change of time) Sun. Violin-maker with Kuros Torkzadeh
The festival is very fortunate to have gained the co-operation of two well known instruments, and the workshops give you the chance to learn a little about this area of craft so essential for music-making. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
